Our agriculture company, Cargills Agri Solutions Co. (CAS), is engaged in providing agri inputs to the farming community, with a vision to modernize agriculture in Sri Lanka and increase the capacity and profitability of the farming community. It produces and distributes local and imported seeds and is also engaged in the distribution of agriculture equipment. With the growing demand for agriculture modernization, we have also diversified towards providing micro irrigation systems and other inputs for farming communities such as insect proof nets, Plastic mulching, Plant Stimulants, Agricultural water pumps, non-chemical pest control systems.
PRODUCTION ------
Crown Seeds
CAS’s own production is sold under the brand name ‘Crown Seeds’ which was established in 1994. One of the earliest initiatives by CAS through Crown Seeds was to enhance the local seed potato propagation methods and practices in Sri Lanka. Crown Seeds introduced high yielding hybrid seeds alongside its highly successful local seed range, importing and distributing world renowned seed brands such as Nunhems from the Netherlands and Kalash Seeds from India, and attracting more farmers through Cargills’ trademark forward contract system. The seed production is handled by trained, qualified staff and processing and storage is done according to the international standards ensuring the quality of the seeds.
Local Seed Range:
- Amaranthus, Bitter Gourd, Brinjal, Chilli Capsicum, Cucumber, Luffa, Marrow Beans, Pumpkin, Radish, Snake Gourd, Tomato, Winged Beans, Beans, Spinach
Imported Seed Range:
- Green Chillies, Okra, Cabbage, Brinjal, Bitter Gourd, Capsicum
Agriculture Solutions
With the growing demand for agriculture modernization, CAS has diversified towards micro irrigation systems and other inputs to encourage sustainable agriculture such as insect proof nets, Plastic mulching, Plant Stimulants, Agricultural water pumps, non-chemical pest control systems. In 2018, CAS ventured into micro irrigation systems in partnership with Jain Irrigation India. CAS field staff were given comprehensive residential training on designing, installation and application of various micro irrigation systems for the whole range of fruits and vegetable grown in Sri Lanka. This immensely benefited the local farming communities who were facing many challenges due to climate change impacts such as drought and excessive and unpredictable rainfall, which damaged crops.
