Cargills Agro Development Co., humble beginning of local seed potato propagation commenced at its production facility in Bopathalawa, CADC Crown Seeds was founded in 1994. After much careful strategic planning, the Crown Seeds portfolio now consists of 16 crops, 35 varieties and has acquired more than 25% share of the low country vegetable seed market. With the introduction of Hybrid seeds to Sri Lanka, Crown Seeds also started the importation of vegetable seeds from Nunhems in Netherlands and India as well.
The core principal of providing high quality local seed production through 200 strong farmer networks registered and well experienced from Anuradhapura, Kandy and Matale, is the reason for the success of the company. The forward contract system ensures that farmers are well compensated and that the company receives quality products.
The seed is assured by the Department of Agriculture through Seed certification services, the production is handled by trained, qualified staff and each step of the storage, and processing units are all done in order to ensure the quality of the seeds.
Amaranthus, Bitter Gourd, Brinjal, Chili, Capsicum, Cucumber Luffa, Marrow Long Beans, Pumpkin, Radish, Snake gourd, Tomato Winged bean are some of the local seed range. CADC also imports and distributes high yielding hybrid seeds under the world renowned brand of Nunhems and Kalash Seeds, with authorization from the Department Of Agriculture. This includes a range of Green Chillies, Okra, Cabbage, Brinjal, Bitter gourd, Capsicum, Beetroot, Carrot and Red Radish.
With the growing demand for agriculture modernization, CADC is being diversified towards micro irrigation systems and other inputs for protected agriculture such as insect proof nets, Plastic mulching, Plant Stimulants, Agricultural water pumps, Non-chemical pest control systems.
