Vision: To be a Global Corporate Role model in
Community Friendly National Development.
Mission: Serve the Rural
Community, our Customers and all other stakeholders through
our core business – food with love – and other related
businesses, based on our three main principles of
Reducing
the cost of living
The minimal post-harvest
losses coupled with the direct purchase system have enabled
Cargills to give Sri Lankan consumers the best possible deal
in essential items, thereby making high quality nutritious
food more accessible to the masses.
Enhancing
youth skills
Cargills has identified
that there is a huge vacuum in professional training for the
Food industry. Thus the Albert A. Page Institute of Food
Business has been established to design and deliver job
oriented skill development programmes via a non-
profit venture targeting the under privileged as
well as the untapped youth population across the island. The
training they receive would give them substantial knowledge
of the food business and secure lucrative jobs in the sector
locally or overseas and above all give them ‘value’ in the
job market.
Bridging
regional disparities
Cargills has established
a direct supply network of farmers with all sourcing of
rice, milk, vegetables and fruits done via collection
centres located in Thambuththegama, Nuwaraeliya,
Norochcholai, Hanguranketha, Dehiattakandiya, Bandarawela,
Gampaha/Divulapitiya and Neluwa.
Cargills guarantees every farmer a minimum price which is
20% above their cost of production, keeping the business in
line with the principles of ‘fair trade’. Thus Cargills has
ensured that the rural agriculture sector is empowered with
a guaranteed market and a guaranteed price coupled with
knowledge transfers and capacity building in technology
The Cargills retail network is spread across 17 districts.
With each expansion project we generate new employment
opportunities to the youth. We bring with us infrastructure
facilities, and amenities like electricity and water. Our
presence in a community uplifts lifestyles and lives.
