Cargills Lanka Milk
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
For Sri Lankans, consuming milk is not a novel experience. Milk and milk
related products had been identified as the best source of nourishment
for centuries. We used to say "Kiriyen peniyen ithirewa", when we need
to wish someone prosperity. Milk has been so close to our lives as a
symbol of prosperity, good luck and good health.
During the recent past, the country faced with a shortage in the supply
of fresh milk to cater the local market requirements, thereby compelling
the government to import milk related products.
These are the circumstances which prompted Cargills to pioneer a project
to process fresh milk and distribute it to the door steps of the
households, which is also in line with the government's long term
programme for boosting national nourishment levels.
The two main objectives of the programme are to improve nourishment
levels of Sri Lankan consumers and to give milk farmers a reasonable
price for their milk. Also this would be a relief for the busy house
wives as they are able to get the milk requirement delivered to their
door steps.
Another objective of this programme is to provide opportunities for
local milk farmers to sell their products at a competitive price as
Cargills has planned to collect milk through 48 cooperative milk
collection centers and process it at their state of the art factory -
Cargills Quality Dairies under strict quality control systems and best
hygiene practices.
We invite the Consumers to enjoy a fresh experience with Cargills Lanka
Milk.
